School Days

So yesterday was the First Day of School! As some may know Jared is staying home this year as we are trying something new for us.  This year we are using the K12 WAVA program.   I have never tried anything like this before and I was completely overwhelmed with the thought of making my own curriculum and schedule, so for now, we are trying this.

Here is our Kindergartner.  But just like everyone else he got up and dressed in new clothes and we started in on our day.  Just cuz we are at home, we aren't going to be lazy.

*not happy that the pictures are all blurry.  I hate my point and shoot*

Here he is with the things that were sent to us.  This is all the FREE books, materials, supplies and fun things that were sent.  You can order more if you want more and if you are doing more/extra subjects such as art, music and whatnot, but for now, being that this is new and he is only in kindergarten we are happy with what he has.  I can do Music myself if I so desire.

He is a better look at the stuff.  It all showed up in 2 boxes that weighed 52 pounds together.  It was a lot to look through, but I am rather impressed.  Mom looked at it this weekend while they were here, and she was thoroughly surprised and impressed too.

Seeing that right now he is only doing Kindergarten stuff he mainly does hands on things, with some online computer work too.  Next week they are going to test him and adjust his work to where he needs to be.  Having said that, he LOVED it yesterday.

He had a great time, and I honestly lost count to how many times he turned to me and said "I'm glad you are teaching me at home and that you are my teacher!  I love you!"  I'm almost certain that we made the right decision for him.
I hope that this continues to go well and that Jared and I are able to accomplish great things.

So glad you're off to a good start.

It just warmed my heart to read what he said to you about being glad to be home and have you for his teacher. :-) I know homeschooling isn't for everyone, but it's so nice it's an option for our kids. It is overwhelming at times, but I'm confident you can handle it! I know kindergarten was a long time ago for you, but you know the material, you know your boy, and you love him! What more do you need to know to help him learn and grow? Good job, Mom!

You are an awesome mom! I agree with everything your mom said above. Good luck!
