We stayed put and just for kicks here is a picture of Carys with a vuvuzela and minion crackers. She will not eat the Kevins. I couldn't have picked out which was Kevin, but I can now. Silly girl has a special place in her heart for Kevin, and he will NOT be eaten.
Kevin close up.
So that was last week. Pretty low key besides a cough and such. This week has been a whole other story. One that I wish and pray we never have to go through again. In a moment I think you will understand. The end of last week, Ally was acting a bit off. Not terribly so, but tired and run down.
By Sunday she was running a low fever. Lovely, I thought. Though I wasn't too worried, I figured she was probably just getting the cold Jared had. You, know if one kid gets something, they all get it.
Monday she was the same all morning, though headache and sore throat joined in. Tried to keep her comfortable and resting. She went down for a nap in hopes rest would do her good and wake up feeling a bit better.
Well, around 2:30 I got a call from my neighbor who was out of town. She wanted me to go over next door and check on the girl staying at her place. She had a baby just 6 days prior and her boyfriend (the babies dad) was working in Spokane and hadn't heard from her in several hours and was getting concerned.
I went over and knocked and there was no answer. I grabbed another neighbor who knew the neighbor a little better. We went back over, knocked and knocked. I didn't want to wake her up. You know the rule when you have a new baby. Sleep when baby sleeps. Well, we had to talk with her so I unlocked the front door (I have a spare key) and we called out to her.
Yet again no answer. That is when we discovered her. Face down on a bed and gone. I won't say more about that, but I grabbed the baby, while my other neighbor called 911. We then went outside and waited for help to arrive.
It was a horrible situation. It took 3 or 4 hours, which seemed so much longer living it. I held baby tight, kept him snuggled and warm while the emergency folks were busy with his mom. After a while I realized that baby just wasn't as active as my 6 day olds were. They would squirm, fuss, have wet pants after 14 hours, and of course would be hungry. The ambulance was called back and he was checked out. His body temp was low and he had probably screamed himself to sleep so many times that he was lethargic. He was taken to the hospital to get warmed up and cared for.
After all the reports were made, questions asked (several times) phone calls made to my neighbor and such we were able to go inside and start to process what had just happened. The kids were upset. Though they don't know the entire story, they were right here next door to everything.
That is when I took a minute and looked at Ally. She wasn't looking well. She wasn't feeling well at all. I took her temperature and it was 105.6! HOLY CRAP! Way too high for me.
I called her doctor right away and we were told to go to the ER. Once there meds were given, blood was drawn and tests started. All that was discovered is that she was burning up. Strep and urine were negative. Blood looked okay except for the fact that she has low white cell count. Not really low, but lower than normal. Could be a few things which I will mention later.
We got her fever down to 103.8 and were told it is probably a virus. Keep her comfy. Wow, thanks.
The next day she was here or
here. Her doctor got the report from the hospital and wanted to see her himself. It is bad when your child basically sleeps through the exams. Of course she woke up when they shoved things in her, but otherwise she was like this. She is still burning up, she is too weak to walk, her head hurts, her throat bothers her from time to time. etc
We were told to give it a couple more days, but bring her back Thursday IF not before. Of course call if anything changes. We had 2 doctors stumped.
That night she started puking. My poor Ally has such a sensitive tummy. Everything makes her puke. Car rides, spinning, fevers, scary things. You name it.
I called the doc to let them know.
Wednesday (yes we are just on Wednesday) was a chill day. She rested all day. No doctor that day. Thursday it was back to the doc. Nothing was answered. She was slowly, very slowly improving sort of. Her fever is slowly coming down. Sitting around 101. Why won't it go all the way down?
That night her fever went up again, but not past 103. Then suddenly it went down. She perked up. She was feeling a bit better. I then noticed a rash. from her chin down her torso, front and back. Aaron and I already had made another appointment to see the Dr. we couldn't see this day tomorrow (Friday). We had questions and needed answers.
In one way I was frustrated to see another symptom, but in another way I was hoping that another symptom would bring answers.
We were in the office first thing in the morning. Roseola! She has Roseola. A virus in the herpie family. Usually children ages 2-5 get it, but my 6 year old got it. It is high fever for 3-4 days and then a rash. This answers what she has now. Now to get her feeling better so we can do more testing to find out why she gets sick so often and why it wipes her out so much harder than others. She can't simply get a cold. Her siblings will get a cold and then she gets it, and she is down!
The lower white blood cell count might be apart of this. We will hopefully find something out in the near future. We need to help our sweet girl.
Finally a smile!
Last night
Finally well enough to sit outside! Playing too!
It has been a really rough week. A week that I hope we never have a repeat of. In many ways things could have turned out much more worse. We were blessed to get answers. We were blessed to find baby Elijah ok next door. Thoughts for the friends and family of the young mom who passed. Oh, and prayers that we can move on and be healthy! Aaron starts a new job in a little over a week. He will be working in SeaTac and staying with my parents while we (the kids and I) stay here for at least a little bit. Things are still coming to light on what we should do.
