Monday morning Aaron and I went down to Yakima for Aaron's surgery. He was finally getting his sinus's cleaned out. There were lots of cysts and polyps that needed to be removed. Dr. Black planned on widening his sinuses and he also braking the bones in his upper sinus area (kinda between the eyebrows) to give his sinuses more room to expand if needed.
The pictures below show exactly how things went down.
Here is his sinuses. The first one is shows how they are widened.
These pictures show a nasty ol' polyp and then a cleaned up area. Much better! Dr. Black sent a sample away for testing just to make sure there isn't anything funny going on there.
The surgery itself was a success. Lot's of nasty stuff removed and lots more room for future funk to move through. Dr. Black came and talked to me after the surgery and said that they are hoping now that the blockages are out (which were acting like dams) that the likely hood of him getting more sinus infections as often are lessened. We are also hoping this helps with his headaches.
After surgery is when the fun stuff began (sense sarcasm.) The surgery itself took about 1 hour and 45 minutes, but 3 hours later I was still waiting. Little did I know that Aaron was having breathing issues. Once they removed the breathing tube Aaron's O2 stats were really low (hovering around 60, they want it over 94) and he had to be put on the Bi Pap machine. After that got a little better he was put on a forced oxygen mask and bag.
I was then brought back and was told that he was not going to be allowed to go home. It was kind of a blow. I totally understood why they were doing that, but didn't want to leave him there either.
After a while they got him a room and he was transferred and got settled there. I hung around for a few more hours, it was now after 5 PM and I had to get back to the kids. He was doing a bit better, but they still didn't like his numbers and they weren't sure if his O2 stats were going to drop lower once he was asleep since he was still on narcotics. He did alright during the night, though he never really slept.
Yesterday morning I was able to go back down and pick him up. He was discharged but we have further testing to do. Dr. Black wants him to do a sleep study. He is pretty sure that Aaron has Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He may need to start wearing a Bi Pap or Cpap machine at night, actually it is very likely, not may.
Anyway today has been alright. He is sore, tired and a bit dizzy and stuffy. He isn't allowed to blow his nose for about 2 weeks and it is bothering him, but you do what you have to do.

You're right, they're not too bad. Glad it's over now and you can all get back to normal - whatever that is, right?
